What You Need To Know

How MLS Laser Therapy works and the conditions it can help you recover from.

Understanding MLS Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy, or MLS (Multiwave Locked System) Laser Therapy, is an effective, noninvasive treatment option for patients who have acute or chronic pain conditions. It delivers light in two distinct wavelengths: the 808 nanometer wavelength concentrates on reducing inflammation and edema, and the 905 nanometer wavelength concentrates on pain reduction, resulting in an analgesic effect. The combination produces greater pain relief as they affect different pathways causing the pain.

The dual action low energy laser light works at the cellular level, targeting the mitochondria, considered the “power houses” of the cells. These microscopic mitochondria take nutrients from our bodies and create energy rich molecules for the cell, and this activity promotes healing. The MLS laser energy penetrates into your tissues, stimulating cell regrowth so your body can repair damaged soft tissues faster.

Providers use cold laser therapy to aid healing for conditions like plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis, along with other tendon, ligament, and muscle injuries. Whether you have an acute injury such as a sprain, strain, or stress fracture, or chronic pain from arthritis, neuropathy, or post-operative discomfort, MLS Laser Therapy may be an option. It can also help non-infected wounds and post-operative incision sites heal faster with less scarring.

The Robotic MLS Laser is FDA cleared and backed by 30 years of research, including a study at Harvard University confirming its safety and efficacy. If you are living with pain that has not responded to other treatments, schedule a consultation with our team to see whether MLS Laser Therapy is right for you.

Treatment Sessions and Benefits

The effects of MLS Laser Therapy build over time. Most patients report feeling a reduction in pain before their third treatment. Acute injuries typically respond well with about six sessions, two to three times a week for two to three weeks. For chronic conditions, the recommended total is twelve sessions, two to three times a week for four to six weeks, sometimes followed by a maintenance program of once a week or every other week.

For neuropathy, a series of twelve treatments, two to three times per week over four to six weeks, will provide relief. Laser treatments are cumulative, meaning they build upon one another. Following the initial phase, one treatment each month, for a total of twenty-four treatments, will continue to reduce inflammation and increase blood flow.

Each session typically lasts between ten and thirty minutes. You will wear protective eyeglasses during the treatment, and the doctor and laser technician will be in the room the entire time. Since there is no pain, our patients often find this very relaxing, and some even doze off. There is no downtime afterward, so you can schedule an appointment during your lunch break.

Key advantages include no known side effects, increased circulation, a reduced need for oral pain medications, and the ability to combine this therapy with other treatments such as physical therapy. Although MLS Laser Therapy is FDA cleared, it is not yet covered by insurance carriers. Talk with our team about a plan tailored to your condition and goals.
